Awarded annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts community.

Artsbridge’s annual Members show was held this year in Lambertville, New Jersey at the Riverrun Gallery. The opening reception was on June 10, 2006. Special thanks to Ty Hodanish, Artsbridge president and the Artsbridge volunteers for a beautiful exhibition and program.

More than 300 art lovers attended the opening reception for Artsbridge’s 12th Annual Juried Show at Riverrun Gallery in Lambertville. The show runs through July 1st . Artsbridge president Ty Hodanish announced the winners of awards that brought with them more than $5,000 in prize money. The first annual Doris Brandes Memorial Award for Overall Best in Show went to Dott Bunn for her oil painting “Baker at Tabora.” The award is bestowed in memory of the beloved long-time champion of the arts in our region who helped found Artsbridge, Art Matters, and the James A. Michener Museum. The Michener Museum P urchase Award, sponsored by a $1,000 grant from the First National Bank and Trust Company of Newtown, was bestowed on three artists: Gene Rossi for his watercolor “Montauk Rendezvous,” Oliver Rodums for his digital work “Rascasse,” and Lawrence Gaynor for his mixed-media work “Transpositions.”

The Marty Award for outstanding contributions to the arts community went to Grace Croteau, a founding member of Artsbridge and owner of Riverrun Gallery. She was recognized for her constant generosity to artists and arts organizations in need. The award, given by the Artsbridge board, is presented in memory of beloved former Artsbridge board member Marty Luther, owner of Dresswell’s in Lambertville, who was a selfless supporter of the arts in our community.

Hodanish also announced several awards for Best in Show for individual media. The award for painting went to Mark Reed for “Blast Furnaces, Ore Trestle.” The award for watercolor went to Susannah Thomer for “Community Window.” The award for sculpture went to Holly Grysko for “Goat.” The award for photography went to Chris Wojtaszek for “Hibbs House.” And the award for works on paper/mixed media went to Thomas Linker for “’S’ is for Sax.” A special honorable mention award went to Nancy Anderson for her mixed media creation “Seraph.” Jurors for the show, which received numerous compliments for being the strongest Artsbridge show ever, were Tim Martin and Charles McVicker.

Major award sponsors were Kurfiss Real Estate ($1,000), W. T. Callaway Real Estate ($500), Karen Spiro and family ($250), Walter Hazzard of Topeo Galleries ($250), Lambertville Gallery of Fine Arts ($250), David and Peter Mancuso Show Management ($250), and David Rago Auctions ($250). Other exhibition donors were Artisans Gallery, Blue Raccoon Home Furnishings, Lucinda Chou, Coryell Gallery, Pierre and Sheila Coutin, John Dwyer and Herb Millman of Cockamamie’s, the Fox and Hound, Hotel du Village, Mayor Laurence Keller of New Hope, Knobs and Knockers, C. A. Niece and Company, Dr. and Mrs. Samuel A. Ollio, Pidcock Insurance Agency, Troy Putt-Baker, Riverbank Arts, Scannapieco Development, Les Sdorow, Sojourner, and Woolverton Inn.

Food and beverage services were graciously coordinated by Doreen and Melissa Massey, proprietors of the Inn of the Hawke in Lambertville. Delectable gustatory contributions were provided by Bells’ Tavern, Capa Pizza, the Chocolate Box, Central Liquor, de Anna’s, Giuseppe’s Restaurant, Hamilton’s Grill, Inn of the Hawke, Lambertville Trading Company, Meil’s, No. 9 Restaurant, Shop Rite of Flemington, Tortuga’s Restaurant, Triumph Brewery, Walker’s, and Welsh’s.

Artsbridge is a registered 503C non-profit organization, comprised of painters, sculptors, photographers, writers, actors, musicians and filmmakers in the Delaware Valley dedicated to improving the public understanding of the arts in all the creative disciplines. The group supports local, state and regional arts and artists through its sponsorship of events focused on education, exhibition and performance.
